Welcome!

Shammai used to say: make your Torah study regular, speak little, but do much; and receive all people with a pleasing countenance

I'm excited that you're here, and I welcome you with "sever panim yafot" - a warm and welcoming countenance. Please explore the website to learn more about working with me on conversion, mentoring, lifecycle events, or information about the New Mexico Independent Minyan.

Rabbi Dov's Story

Rabbi Dov Gartenberg decided to become a rabbi during high school after serving as a Big Brother for a 5-year-old boy who had no father. He was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary (Conservative Movement) and is a member in good standing of the Rabbinical Assembly of America.  Over his rabbinic career Rabbi Gartenberg has served in congregational settings and in innovative Jewish organizations. He has served as a rabbi in Southern California, Washington State, and New Mexico.

Rabbi Gartenberg’s teachers included Rabbi David Hartman, of blessed memory, of the Shalom Hartman Institute of Jerusalem. Rabbi Art Green, and Rabbi Elliot Dorph.  He is a student of the teachings of Maimonides, Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, and Rabbi Jonathan Sacks.

Rabbi Dov is the father of three children, Zachary, Moriel, and Fay.  He is a passionate baseball fan and loves to sing Shabbat table songs with people whenever he can.
